The rapid test to detect dirofilaria immitis in dogs
The Fassisi CanDiro is an immunological rapid test that detects antigens of the pathogen Dirofilaria immitis (canine heart worm) in blood of dogs.
The parasite is mainly found in America and the Mediterranean, but it is expanding throughout Europe. The pathogen is transmitted by various mosquito species. The parasite matures in the insect
host over several stages and is then passed on to the mammal by inhalation. After further stages of development, the heartworm settles in blood vessels and finally in sections close to the heart.
A full-grown heart worm can grow up to 30 cm long.
In case of a suspected infection with Dirofilaria immitis, the animal should be tested as soon as possible to fight the parasite as early as possible.
* Antibodies are produced firstly after 6-7 month, so that the rapid test can only be used successfully after that time.
